LtGen Joe Weber, USMC, (Ret) serves as executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation.

Under the direction of the Texas Transportation Commission, he is responsible for the strategic direction and overall management of TxDOT’s policies and operations. He maintains relationships with elected leaders all over the state and represents TxDOT before the Texas Legislature.

Weber’s goal is to provide and maintain a safe and reliable transportation system for the 26 million people who live in the great state of Texas, and to support transportation as an economic development tool that makes Texas the best destination for businesses and visitors.

Prior to TxDOT, Weber served as vice president for Student Affairs at Texas A&M University, where he was responsible for the oversight of more than 900 student organizations and activities and all co-curricular student services and support associated with student development and success.

In his 36 years in the United States Marine Corps, Weber served in numerous command and leadership positions throughout the United States and overseas, including tours in Europe, South America, Southeast Asia and Iraq. Weber honed his management and leadership skills on and off the battlefield, where he trained, educated and prepared thousands of Marines, Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen for combat across the world theater. During those assignments, Weber also was responsible for the supervision of a variety of infrastructure projects which included road, port, aviation and rail systems to include their associated maintenance and upkeep.

Weber was born in Weimar, Texas, and grew up in Abilene. In 1972 he graduated from Texas A&M University and later earned a master’s degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas. He became executive director on April 23, 2014.
